A joint webinar was hosted by Saint Paul Millennium Medical College (SPMMC) in collaboration with Myungsung Medical College (MMC) on Feb 18, 2021. The renowned researcher and academician Kwang Chul Kim, Professor and dean at MMC, had an expert talk on ‘’MUC1 mucins: A peacemaker in the lung’’. This seminar was moderated by Dr Sisay Sirgu, Acadamic and Research vice President at SPMMC.

Dr Sisay Sirgu introduced Professor Kwang Chul Kim, to the participants well. Professor Kwang Chul Kim is a renowned researcher and academician with over 5 decades of experience both in South Korea and the United States of America. He has an impressive resume, with a PhD in Pharmacology and a Postdoctoral research in Lung Cell Biology. He has been on the editorial board of several renowned journals as well as served as a manuscript reviewer for many more. He has spent 5 decades on ‘MUC1: Mucin’ research that makes him the right person to talk about ‘MUC1: Mucin A peacemaker in the lung ’. There were more than 30 participants in the webinar, many of them academicians, researchers and post graduate students from SPMMC, AAU and MMC. The participants were glad to have such a renowned scientist with ample experience in international research. The seminar took 1: 30 hours and most participants reflect as it opens the door for the future researches and collaborations.

The seminar talk was one step towards the implementation of Memorandum of understanding signed between SPMMC and MMC in the spirit of fulfilling mutual interests in academic, research and patient care partnerships to promote joint educational, research and patient care endeavors. As part of the seminar, Professor Kwang Chul Kim, had emphasized the need for the collaboration on natural product research which is unique to Ethiopia. All stake holders should participate towards human, financial and infrastructure resource mobilization and the seminar will help in selecting potential researchers that involve in the future Natural product research team led by Professor Kwang Chul Kim.
