Dean’s Welcome

Welcome to our College website!

As Dean of Myungsung Medical College (MMC), I would like to introduce our beautiful school located in the center of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The MMC is a non-profit, private teaching institution affiliated with MCM General Hospital  (MCM) also known as “Korean Hospital” in Ethiopia as well as many neighboring countries.  The MCM was established in 2004 by Myungsung Presbyterian Church in Seoul, Korea, in appreciation of the friendship built between the two countries through the Korean War (1950-1953), to provide the health care to the people of Ethiopia, whereas the MMC was established in 2012, to train competent and compassionate physician leaders for the future of the country. The MMC has a 6 years program of teaching medicine to high school graduates and provides a medical doctor’s degree upon successful completion of all the required courses.

According to the current statistics of the Ethiopian government, the ratio of the numbers of physicians to the population is less than 1 to 8,000 which is extremely low and thus, it is urgent to increase the numbers of physicians to provide appropriate health care service to the people. In an attempt to mitigate the problem rapidly, over 1,500 students have recently been allowed to enroll at the exiting medical schools throughout the country. Such a rapid expansion of the numbers of medical students might compromise the quality of physicians, which could be a serious problem given the necessity of proper education and training of the physicians for effective health care service. In this regard, the MMC is in a unique position to fill the crucial gap through its relatively small size in the student enrollment and the excellent resources such as the outstanding quality of the instructors and the state-of-the-art teaching facility, and most of all, its full dedication to the long-term mission which is to produce competent and compassionate leaders in medicine through carefully designed training programs by experienced leaders in the field.

As new Dean of the MMC, I have a personal dream of producing several national leaders in medicine by selecting gifted high school graduates and nourishing them through the College and postgraduate specialist training abroad. To this end, I would like to receive information useful in identifying such students for the future of the country. Another area our College plans to focus is the medical research which has become a crucial component of global education because of its requirement for logical thinking, analytical skills, creativity, team spirit and ethics, all of which are necessary to become an ideal leader.

Lastly but not the least, we will strive to make our campus not only beautiful but warm and peaceful where everyone cares about each other with the Christian spirit of love and pray our students will become the ambassadors of peace.

May God’s grace and peace be with the people of Ethiopia
