Research and Community Service
With Community: “Good Samaritan” by MMC-Charity Club and EMSA-MMC SCOPH at a facility called Community-Based Integrated Sustainable Development Organization (CBISD) in the Teklehaymont, Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. Hypertension screening, Health Education (Hypertension, Diabetes, Stroke. and Breast cancer) and lunch were provided.
Community Services: According to WHO report 5.9 million children under the age of 5 years died in 2015. Children in sub-Saharan Africa are more than 14 times more likely to die before the age of 5 than children in developed regions. More than half of these early child deaths are due to conditions that could be prevented or treated with access to simple, affordable interventions. MMC students are playing their role as a medical students to mitigate this public health burden.
The MMC is a non-profit, private teaching institution affiliated with MCM General Hospital (MCM) also known as “Korean Hospital” in Ethiopia as well as many neighboring countries. The MCM was established in 2004 by Myungsung Presbyterian Church in Seoul, Korea, in appreciation of the friendship built between the two countries through the Korean War (1950-1953), to provide the health care to the people of Ethiopia, whereas the MMC was established in 2012, to train competent and compassionate physician leaders for the future of the country. The MMC has a 6 years program of teaching medicine to high school graduates and provides a medical doctor’s degree upon successful completion of all the required courses.
